Our Story

Finding My Path: The Decision to Become a Counsellor

My journey into counselling began while I was training to be a teacher, where I found myself naturally drawn to the pastoral aspects of my work. Supporting young people through their struggles was deeply rewarding, yet often challenging. I frequently felt constrained by the demands of my role, especially knowing that the emotional support available to students wasn’t always frequent or consistent. Observing the counsellors who came and went inspired me; I wanted to provide the ongoing support that was truly needed. This realisation became the catalyst for my decision to further my education, leading me to pursue an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy after completing my BA Hons.

Learning from Every Space, Building The Nook’s Vision

I spent years working across various settings - schools, hospitals, and specialist provisions - gathering experiences and learning from every person I met, whether they were children, young people, adults, or families. What stood out to me was how disconnected the mental health world often felt. Whether it was a stark, clinical room or a rushed session, it was clear that therapy spaces didn’t reflect the warmth and care people needed. I dreamed of creating something different: a nurturing space where therapy felt personal, welcoming, and free of judgment - a place that genuinely cared about each individual’s journey. Beyond just the space, I wanted to build a brand that embodied that same warmth, whether you were joining us in person, online, or engaging in a workshop.

Choosing My Own Path: From Burnout to Bold Decisions

In the past I’ve had my own battles with mental health, struggling with burnout, boundaries, and constantly giving too much of myself. It wasn’t until I faced a personal crossroads that I realised I had the power to choose differently. I needed to step back, reclaim my boundaries, and truly invest in myself - values that now shape everything The Nook stands for. That pivotal moment led me to leave my job, as a counselling lead at the time, without a clear plan, but with a heart full of determination to create something new. I wasn’t just setting out to open a practice; I was creating a brand that reflected the journey of healing, growth, and self-empowerment - a brand that invites others to make those bold choices for themselves, too.

The Nook: A Safe Haven, No Matter Where You Are

When I found the space that would become The Nook, I saw more than just four walls - I saw a vision come to life. The Nook is more than a cosy, welcoming therapy room; it’s a brand built on the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether you walk through our doors, join us online, or participate in a workshop or group, The Nook is about creating a space where you can show up exactly as you are, invest in your growth, and reclaim your power. It’s not about fitting into a traditional model of therapy; it’s about creating an experience that feels authentic, approachable, and deeply personal.
